Kids Jiu-Jitsu Classes

Kids Jiu-Jitsu classes teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through drills, games and other techniques. Your child will build confidence as he or she learns how to defend themselves.

Kids Jiu-Jitsu goals:

  • Learn Jiu-Jitsu techniques
  • How to deal with bullying
  • Improve strength, conditioning and coordination
  • Build confidence
  • Learn how to respect peers and coaches
  • Increase attention and focus
  • Have fun and make friends

Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). BJJ is a self-defense that is known as the gentle martial art, because striking isn’t the primary option in defending yourself. The primary objective of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is defending yourself by controlling and submitting an opponent. It doesn’t matter if the person is bigger or stronger than you, because you will learn how to use leverage, grips, positions, joint manipulations, chokes and other submission techniques to take advantage of their weaknesses.

Altercations usually start standing up, but up to 95% of fights end up on the ground. You will learn standing self-defense and how to take an adversary to the ground. Karate, Taekwondo and boxing and other standing self-defenses don’t know how to fight on the ground. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specializes in controlling, subduing and submitting people on the ground. You will have the option to end the fight with whatever level severity is necessary.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes

The classes are safe and techniques are practiced in a controlled environment. There are no kicks or punches and sparring is done under the direct supervision of an instructor. Team Balance Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu does have professional fighters, but the majority of students are professionals with day jobs just like you, who have done other martial arts, but want to learn BJJ, because it’s the best self-defense. Whether you’re brand new to jiu-jitsu or a blue or higher experienced belt you’ll find Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu to be a great place to grow, train and develop your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills.

Jiu-Jitsu classes are five days a week. Jiu-Jitsu class start with a warm up, an instructor will demonstrate a jiu-jitsu technique or situational position and students practice and drill the technique with other students. Classes usually include live sparring and rolling with other students at the same level as you. If you’ve never done jiu-jitsu, you will soon learn it’s contagious, an incredible workout and a grappling chess match that demands physical and mental endurance.

How to Pick the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Studio for You

How do I know which Jiu-Jitsu studio is right for me or my family?

If a gym talks about tournaments, then it’s probably more “sport jiu-jitsu” vs self-defense jiu-jitsu. There’s nothing wrong with tournament jiu-jitsu and many of our students do them, but there many things you can do in a tournament that you would never do in a real street fight situation. Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu focuses on self-defense jiu-jitsu, which includes standing and ground self-defense. A lot of gyms don’t do standing self-defense, which is in essential defending yourself.

What’s the vibe of gym like?

In other words was the studio friendly and a safe environment or did it feel intimidating and I may get pummeled as you try to learn jiu-jitsu. We highly suggest doing some research and reading online reviews on Google, Facebook and Yelp. You might be surprised what’s been posted.

Will my child be in a fun, encouraging and constructive environment or do the instructors yell and lose their temper?

All of the instructors at Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu have been handed picked by Ryan Deichert and have many years working with children on and off the mat.

Are the instructors experienced and what’s their lineage?

Our head instructor, Ryan Deichert, is a 3rd degree black belt, trained with the Gracie family for 6 years at the Gracie Academy and has over 24 years of experience. All of our jiu-jitsu instructors have trained with Ryan for many years and have been hand-picked to work with you.

Come into Wesley Chapel Jiu-Jitsu for a visit. See the studio, meet the instructors, talk about your goals and what you’re looking to accomplish or give us a call 813.922.2526 and we’ll schedule you for a free class.
